ORJ was instructed by a major shareholder in a silverware business to protect shareholder’s rights and to defeat a copyright counterclaim. The issue arose when a family member (also an appointed director) declared a £2.7m bonus for directors, shortly after our client had left the board.
When the issue was raised, the business sued our client for alleged design and copyright infringements.
ORJ are delighted to announce that, as part of a multimillion pound settlement, all claims for breach of design right and copyright were dropped and that our client’s costs were paid.
ORJ’s Patrick Tedstone said, “As a director if you tell the shareholders the company has no money it’s best not to pay yourself a huge bonus a short while later.”
