A health and welfare lasting power of attorney will give those that you trust the power to make decisions about your daily routine and medical care if you are no longer able to. We work with you as the donor, and your family and friends as attorney(s) to plan your future together, helping to avoid conflict and providing certainty over your healthcare.

Appointing a family member or friend as an attorney to help manage your property and financial affairs can help give you control over your future. We help you plan today should you be unable to make all your own decisions in the future and set up an LPA to manage your banking and other financial accounts, welfare benefits or buying or selling property.

All LPAs need to be registered with the Office of the Public Guardian (OPG), either by the donor, if he/she can still make his/her own decisions or by an appointed attorney. At ORJ, we help to simplify the whole process, working with you to compile the paperwork, notify people and register on your behalf, so you have one less thing to think about.

Creating a lasting power of attorney requires careful thought to make sure that all parties are in agreement and are able to act in the best interests of the donor at all times. We can help you set up an LPA with your loved ones that will help them make the best decisions on your behalf. This can be ‘jointly’, to which all attorneys must agree, or ‘jointly and severally’, which means they can make decisions together or on their own.

If someone you care about can no longer make decisions for themselves, and there is no LPA provision already in place, you can apply for deputyship with the Court of Protection. This is a sensitive legal process and we can guide you through every step to ensure the best outcome and protection for all parties.
