Lesley White

Head of Health & Safety, Insurance and Uninsured Loss

Lesley White heads up ORJ Law’s health & safety, personal injury and insurance litigation department

Lesley is a specialist litigation solicitor handling employers’ and public liability accident claims including uninsured risks and claims falling within policy excess, inquests, HSE prosecutions and insurance disputes.

She and her team handle a wide range of employers’, product and public liability claims for insurers. Lesley also acts directly for the Defendants (notably where the claims fall within policy excess or insurers refuse to indemnify).

Her expertise includes:

  • Manual handling
  • Falls from height
  • Work-related upper limb disorders
  • Disease
  • Slips and trips
  • Inquests and fatal accident claims
  • Severe injuries: paraplegic, quadriplegic, complex head injury
  • Sporting injuries (motorsport and parachuting claims)
  • Policy interpretation

In addition, companies (whether household name multinationals, small family-run businesses or those in between), individual directors and managers often come to Lesley for assistance and representation at inquests and HSE prosecutions.

Lesley has more than 30 years’ experience in personal injury litigation to partner level. She prides herself on thorough investigation and prompt, practical advice with an eye on both political and commercial implications for policy holders and self-insured.

Lesley commenced her career as a legal secretary and so impressed her principal, Steven Paris of Paris and Co, that he put her through law school and supported her financially for the nine years it took to qualify whilst working full time.

She remained working with Paris and Co for over 20 years specialising in motorsport and parachuting litigation.

She moved to Browne Jacobson’s then newly opened Birmingham office and worked closely with the sporting departments in their Nottingham and London offices whilst also becoming proficient in employers’ liability litigation generally.

Lesley was then headhunted by Eldridge and Co in Oxford where she was quickly made a partner specialising in high-value quantum cases across the whole spectrum of health and safety litigation. During this time she was the nominated solicitor for the National Karting Association.

A three-year enforced career break followed as a result of a major road traffic accident. She was then approached by ORJ Law to support the Defendant personal injury and insurance team, which she now heads. She is a director of the firm.

“ORJ was appointed by our insurers to help us defend a public liability claim in which we were one of five Defendants. Lesley White gathered all the relevant information and established the facts in this extremely complicated case and handled matters in a conscientious and professional manner.

As a result of her tactical approach, ultimately both the claimant in the main action and in related part 20 proceedings discontinued their claims against us. The potential of the claims was over £300,000. We benefited from the hard work of ORJ through Lesley White who gained a detailed understanding of our business and presented our defences.

We would recommend ORJ Law and in particular Lesley White for the thoroughly professional job undertaken on our behalf.”
